Fees for Service
The fee illustration below is an example only and is based on typical situations. It is not a commitment to a fee for any specific property.

Professional fees are based on a rate of $100 per hour and the total fee will ultimately depend on the particular property being inspected or the Consultation being undertaken. A fee estimate will be provided at the initial consultation (which is free), 50% is expected before beginning work and the balance is due at delivery of the report.

If the scope changes during the work, fee changes will be agreed upon before continuing.

HST is added to all fees.
Example for Home Inspections:

For a typical Single Family Home of 2000 finished sq ft our inspection would include the visual inspection of the home, a walk through with the client, preparation of the detailed written report, and a meeting with the client the following day to review the report and answer any questions the client may have. These activities will normally require about 7 hours of my time to complete.

NOTE:

In all cases the initial discussion related to scope of the project is free.

Additional fees may be added to cover non-standard items such as suites, additional space such as crawlspaces, partially finished basements, detached shops and other outbuildings, etc. They may also be added for inspections beyond the basic standards. Examples would be thermal imaging, electrical surveys, energy audits, etc.
Property Condition Assessments (Home & Commercial Inspections):
Proper inspection of a home or commercial properties goes far beyond the standards used for typical “home inspection” and with commercial inspections, the inclusion of specialists with specific technical background is often a must.
While basic home inspection is regulated in BC, commercial inspection is not. In both, it is imperative that a recognized standard be applied to the inspection. For home inspections we follow the BCIPI Standards of Inspection and for commercial inspections, or PCA's, we follow the most widely recognized standard - ASTM E2018—8.

New Home Construction Completion Inspections and New Home Warranty Inspections:
Buying a home will often be the biggest investment decision an individual or a family will make. BC has a mandatory New Home Warranty program in place to protect purchasers of new homes from the unforseen - but if you don't know a problem exists, how can you get it corrected under the Warranty?

Construction Progress and Completion Management Sustainable Building (Green) Consulting, Design Assistance, and Inspections:
BC expects to have a new Building Code in place in 2012. The code has been evolving in two major areas: sustainability or "green building" and performance based rather than prescriptive standards. Growing numbers of people want to be sure their new home or commercial property not only meets minimum code requirements, but actually exceeds the minimum, particularly in sustainability. You need someone working for you to provide expert advice and monitor all stages of the construction cycle.

Professional Standards:
In all our work we follow the Professional Practise Standards and Codes of Ethics of ASTTBC/BCIPI and APEGBC.

Home Performance and Sustainable Building Education:
We are involved in formal Post Secondary educational initiatives in:
* Home Inspection
* Sustainable Building
